Rule 12
Payment by the bank

(1) When paying the amount as per the demand to the account holder, the relevant employee of the bank will take the signature of the account holder and compare it with the specimen of the signature in the bank. If the signature is found and if it is found that the amount as per demand can be paid from the accumulated amount, the amount that he wants to withdraw will be transferred to his account and passbook and the remaining amount will be paid.
(2) Notwithstanding anything written in sub-rule (1), even if the signature of the account holder does not match the specimen of the signature already in his bank, payment can be made to him by taking the deposit as follows:
(a) by taking the security of other permanent employees of the post office where the staff working the paying counters and related accounts are sitting, or
(b) by taking the security of the account holder who has more accumulated in that bank than the amount desired to be withdrawn, or
(c) the postmaster taking the surety of a person believed to be .
(3) If there is any doubt regarding the lapche print of the account holder who does not know how to read and write, the amount can be paid by taking a deposit as per sub-rule (2).
